Bair Island Aquatic Center is proud to be part of National Learn to Row Day sponsored by USRowing and Concept 2. As part of this nationwide program, the BIAC boathouse will be open to anyone interested in learning how to row, absolutely FREE OF CHARGE. While gaining mastery of this beautiful sport is a lifelong endeavor, this is a great opportunity to get your first "taste of rowing" here in Redwood City. Bring your friends! ¡Hablamos Español!
Recreational rowers range in age from 13 to over 90, so it is never too early or too late to learn to row! Participants and events in all aspects of the sport (flat water to open water or coastal) are found the world over, making for a rich and vibrant community to explore. No experience necessary, all fitness levels welcome.
Guests will have an opportunity to learn boat handling, terminology, and fundamentals of rowing. After spending some time on a rowing machine to learn the basic rowing stroke, you'll get on the water in a team rowing boat, accompanied by a coach and some experienced rowers.
This activity is appropriate for ages 13+. For safety reasons, we are unable to offer on-the-water rowing to children younger than 13. Younger guests with adult supervision are still welcome to come learn about boats and enjoy some snacks!
Note: Children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

You can anticipate that your boathouse experience (including the row) will last approximately an hour. If it turns out that you're unable to attend the event, or if you need to come at a different time than you originally planned, no worries at all. We're flexible, and we're very happy to host you anytime between 9:00am and 1:00pm.
We look forward to seeing you at the boathouse on Saturday, June 7!
