Sculling Clinics and Classes for Summer 2020

These programs and clinics are for experienced rowers and scullers who want to improve build skills and improve their sculling technique. All programs are best suited to those whom, at a minimum, have the skills required to successfully pass a Learn to Scull class. Most, with the exception of "Sculling Spectacular", require at least one year of rowing or sculling experience.

Performance Sculling Clinics with J

This one-day singles clinic, run by Coach “J,” is designed for good scullers who are looking to be great. The class focus is on technique, drills, and breaking down parts of the stroke. This 2.5-hour session runs one Sunday a month over the summer. Each participant will leave the clinic with a list of specific drills designed to address their biggest technical challenge. Learn to go fast by slowing down!

Classes have a minimum of 2 registrants and a maximum of 6 registrants. Cost is $60 per session.

Prerequisites: This is a Level 3 class and is not for rookies. At least intermediate competency in a 1x is required.

Intensive Sculling Camp with Sara Nevin

Join expert sculling coach Sara Nevin for this three-day intensive sculling camp with lots of personal attention that will fine-tune your skills. Learn how to move a 1x, 2x and a 4x more effectively! Whether you are relatively new or very experienced, everyone will improve in 3 rowing sessions per day.

2020 Intensive 3-Day Sculling Camp Schedule 

This camp has a maximum of 6 registrants. Cost is $500 for BIAC members, $550 for non-members.

You can bring your own boat (we will provide free storage) OR use one of ours.

Prerequisites: This class is for people who know how to scull and have at least one year of rowing experience.

Sculling Spectacular with J

This summer, Rowing 2 becomes the Sculling Spectacular with Coach “J”! It's time to tap into your inner sculler and move a single. Learn new skills that will translate to any boat, big or small. These are twice per week practices over the course of a month.

We offer early summer and mid-to-late summer sessions shown below. You may sign up for one or both.

Prerequisites: You must be certified in a 1x and a BIAC member to sign up for this program.

Details on 2020 Sculling Clinics and Programs:

  • All sessions are held on site at Bair Island Aquatic Center.
  • Participants/registrants must be 18-years or older.
  • Costs for the clinics and programs vary, see event signup for details.
  • You can bring your own single or reserve one of our club boats.
  • Only Sculling Spectacular requires club membership. The other clinics are open to the public. Learn more about membership here.
  • When you register you will be sent additional details on what to expect in the session, what to wear, and what to bring.

Sculling Technique and Practice Sessions – Ongoing (sign up and drop in)

These ongoing programs are offered to BIAC members throughout the year. New to sculling or rowing? Try out our Learn to Scull first!

Prerequisites: You must be certified in a 1x and a BIAC member to sign up for these sessions. Required skill levels vary depending on the program.

eRows with Alice (Level 2)

Alice Henderson offers coached sessions on Wednesday and Friday mornings. These are technical sculling classes with a bit of cardio. Members row at their own pace and are given individual coaching attention. A participant describes the sessions as "...specific to each person's needs," appreciating Alice's ability to "find a solution to that specific problem." Sculling Practice (Level 2)

Level 2 Sculling technique and cardio practice sessions are available on Monday mornings.

Open to any BIAC member who is approved to row a sculling single (1x) (like Learn to Scull graduates).

Competitive Sculling with Mike (Level 4) 

Coached by Mike Still, this program is for scullers focusing on improving their fitness level and sculling technique. Most sessions include a video review. Although many members of the group compete, that is not a necessary prerequisite. Practices are held Tuesday and Thursday 8-9:30am, and Saturday 9-10:30am. Scullers make a monthly commitment for 1-3 sessions/week, with coaching fees based on the number of sessions attended. There is also a single-session drop-in rate. Fine Print (Refund Policy)

We offer a full refund up to one week before your session starts. We will refund 75% of your registration cost if you must cancel within a week of your session. No refunds are offered after the first day of class, although if necessary we will make every effort to reschedule you in a later session.
