BIAC was represented at the largest regatta in the world, Head of the Charles, in October. Just prior to this photo, the Senior Master Women's 8+ untangled from a collision while overtaking a boat. They still had a strong finish and secured a spot to compete next year. Read more about HOCR below. (Photo copyright SportGraphics. See more BIAC photos here.)

Email your photos to feature in a future newsletter. Have news to share? Please send any announcements or updates as well. We'd like to feature every corner of BIAC!

Volunteer Opportunities:

  • The Adaptive Erg Class needs help with moving ergs on Saturdays, 10:45am-12:30pm. Contact Kerry or sign up here.
  • We're recruiting Rabbits to lead our visually impaired athletes for our Everybody Rows classes. If you’re interested, contact Coach Chuck.
  • Sign up for boat maintenance on Saturday, Nov. 20 from 8-11am. It's time we give some love to our sweep boats.
  • Save the date: Dec. 11th, 8-11am will be the BIAC All-club Fall/Winter Grounds and Gardening Clean Up Day.
  • BIAC is growing and we need more rack space. We need lead volunteers and helpers to plan and construct a new boat rack that can accommodate BIAC owned 4+, 4x/-, and 3x boats. Email Chris if you're interested in helping.

  • Renata Perry – Women's Veteran I 1x
  • Nadia, Sharon, Janet, Athena, Amanda, Rochelle, Fiona, Frances and Marjorie – Women's Senior Master 8+

Several BIAC entries re-qualified to compete again next year! Full results here.

Not everyone made the group photo, but seen here are many of the racers from BIAC who raced at Head of the Port in West Sacramento on Oct. 10.
Head of the Port

Recently, the competitive rowing team, along with a few novices, derigged boats, loaded them onto a trailer, and raced as a BIAC team at Head of the Port for the first time since Fall 2019. Rowers competed in the Women's 4x (1st place), Women's 1x (4th & 5th places), Men's 2x (1st place), Men's Novice 2x (1st place), Men's 4+ (1st place), Women's 8+ (3rd place), Men's 8+ (2nd place). Congratulations everyone and many thanks to Mike Verdone and the Serra Crew for making space for us on their trailer and all their help.

BIAC Elections

It's that time again; time to vote for BIAC board members. The ballot is now open and runs until the annual meeting date of Sunday, Nov. 21. We have three candidates for three open positions. Please read their candidate statements here. Eligible voting members should have already received a system-generated email on Monday, Nov. 1 with a link to the election ballot. IMPORTANT: We need everyone to vote so we can achieve a quorum. Elections cannot conclude until we have enough members participating.

BIAC All-Club Party & Annual Meeting

You're invited! Come to the BIAC All-Club Party (with Annual Meeting) Sunday, Nov. 21 starting 11am in the modulars/tent. Don't miss the Taco Bar and other goodies – detailed announcement coming soon. The annual meeting includes a presentation about the club and annual updates. Come for some tacos, chat with friends while wearing dry clothes and keep informed about the state of your club.

Equipment & Facility Updates (New Stuff!)

New Aeros

Two of our new BIAC Maas Aero open water boats have been delivered! Please look for these boats in the fleet rotation as we cycle out our older Maas Aero singles.

New Oars

Thanks to our fundraising we have 8 new sets of sculling oars, which are now dressed in BIAC blue and green thanks to the Comp Team.

New Trailer

BIAC purchased a new trailer (brand new!) and it has finally arrived. We will likely use it for the first time for Head of the Lagoon in Foster City later this month.

Tips

Winter Conditions

When the combined water + air temperature is less than 100F, chances of hypothermia are greater. Dress in appropriate layers and go out with a partner. Also, make sure you know the docks and safe places to land in a small boat. (Answer: Stanford, Pete’s/Pally Cove, just south of the port and Westport.) While using our waterways, also take note of where a beach landing is possible in the unlikely event you need to make an emergency landing.
