    This Coastal Rowing series consists of four 1.5 hour sessions over 4 days:

    • June 8, Tuesday, 5-6:30pm
    • June 10, Thursday, 5-6:30pm
    • June 15, Tuesday, 5-6:30pm
    • June 17, Thursday, 5-6:30pm

    Coastal Rowing is the latest rage and a great skill for BIAC’s windy afternoons. Rowers will use the Coastal 1x, Coastal 2x and Coastal 4x+ as well as open water 1x boats.

    Skills taught in this class include:

    • learning to row in wind and waves (and embrace them!)
    • beach sprints – running and launching/landing on a beach
    • buoy turns
    • coastal race formats – what they are and how to participate
    • how to safely reenter an open water boat in windy conditions

    Join us to learn and practice open water rowing from Coach Amanda, who participated in the last two Coastal World Championships. 

    The cost for this class is $150 for members; $200 for non-members. Registrants may be asked about their rowing experience upon registration to make sure this is the right class for them.

    NOTE: Rowers must be competent and comfortable in a 21' or 24' (wherry) single. Some sessions will be in group boats; please email Amanda if you are not comfortable in bigger boats. We recommend at least one year of experience as optimal to enjoy this class. 

    THIS IS NOT A BEGINNER CLASS TO LEARN HOW TO ROW. Please register for Intro to Rowing or Learn to Scull if you are new to rowing.

    Open to all crafts designed for open water adventures (paddling and rowing).

    Following the event we will host a happy hour – please bring your own drink and food to enjoy!

    $10 to members, $20 for non-members.

    Open to All – Participants must be 1x, coastal or surfski certified. Please register so we know who to expect. Non-members will be emailed to confirm qualifications and boat preferences.

    We will launch from BIAC at 8:30am. All participants should plan to be in open water or coastal shells.

    The row is approximately 12km each direction (24k round trip) and will take approximately 3 hours. We will land on the beach and take snack break and bathroom break. A coach will accompany rowers in a safety launch.

    This event for exercising, socializing and plenty of fun in the water beyond the wires. Register now so we know how many participants to expect!

    NOTE: Participants must be capable of 24k/three hours. Rowers must be comfortable in a wherry (open water shell) or coastal boat and must have a minimum of 1-year sculling experience.

    Speed is not a requirement for participation but anyone significantly behind or struggling before we reach the wires outbound will be asked to turn back.

    This event must have a minimum of 3 to take place and registration may close depending on how many boats participate. Communicate your boat preference to Coach Amanda via email.
